Right now I wish I was just a little closer to Miami, specifically the Dadeland Mall. Microsoft just opened up an amazing new store there and I am so excited to tell you all about it. The store’s goal is to be very hands-on and open with the public. They have a special Community Theater Space (shown above) where people, local businesses, groups, etc. can reserve the space to hold meetings, classes, etc. It even has a HUGE screen for gaming events. Microsoft wants people, young and not-so-young, to come in and touch, test, and try out all of their products such as Windows phones, an XBox, and even a Surface Tablet.
This Microsoft store doesn’t just stop at inviting customers in to touch and try out their products, they also offer some amazing programs for the community. Starting June 10th they are offering 100% FREE summer camp where children can learn all about technology, play games, and more. Did I mention that it’s FREE?!?!?
They also offer FREE courses for both home school children as well as children in public and private schools. See why I wish they were closer to me? One of the classes they offer is called Game Masters. In the Game Masters course kids learn to create their own games. How amazing is that?!?!
I had the chance to explore the new Microsoft store last week and learn all about their amazing products. Top on my new “I want it” list is the Microsoft Surface Tablet. I purchased an iPad last year and I was planning on blogging from it. So far it’s turned into a giant toy for my children. But the Surface is different. It runs Microsoft Office just like my laptop so I would be able to actually work from it. I love how the Surface easily clicks right into the keyboard base. And the Surface has a “snap” feature where you can see two programs at one time- for example you can see your music on one side of your screen and still be working in Word on the other side. There is also a fun app called Fresh Paint that can be used on the Surface to create fun artwork. You can select from different brush styles, colors, and lots more. I know my girls would love this app. I like that you can set up different user profiles with the Surface so you can select which apps you would your children to have access to.
I had never tried an Xbox before but I was amazed at it’s technology. It is truly the hub of a home’s entertainment center. You can not only play XBox games but you can also use it to watch movies through Hulu and Netflix, watch videos on YouTube, and lots more. I’ve seen so many detective shows where they put evidence up on the screen and then use their hand to swipe to the next screen, but I didn’t realize that this technology was already available in homes. With the XBox, you are the controller. You swipe your hand to change screens, make choices, and more. I guess I have been living under a rock to not know just how amazing XBox’s technology is. You can connect your Surface or your Windows Phone to your XBox and control all right from the couch. But you won’t want to just sit on the couch when they have such fun games as the #1 selling Zumba, Dance Central, and for kids, the National Geographic Animals game. If you are looking for a workout game, check out the Nike game. As you are exercising to your specific program it will even be able to tell you if you are in the wrong position and correct you as you go. Such amazing technology.
Let’s not forget Windows Cellphones. Windows phones have such great features as a designated camera button so you won’t miss that perfect shot. You can also have direct access to post to facebook right from your contacts list. I love that you can set up a Kids Corner so your children can only access their apps. It’s like a phone within a phone. And if you want to share contacts, apps, pics, and more you can easily do so by tapping phones together using the special feature. Love that!
I had to share the adorable cookies we received at the opening of the Microsoft store. My girls couldn’t believe there were pictures on the cookies!
If you are in the area, make sure to check out the Microsoft Store in the Dadeland Mall. Just be careful because your children might never want to leave once they start playing on the XBox!
